EMULATOR insert to SQUIB connector for airbag (note: the airbag is totally disposed away)
Simulator in place-before taping and securing to the seat frame.
Passenger Sensor assembly
This is fairly simple: Make sure the battery is disconnected during this process.
Occupancy sensor-take the one removed from the old seat. Look at the back of the bottom -the seat cushion-(from Discount Van) after running the seat back far back into the recline position. You should see a “pigtail” of the upholstery-an access point in the middle of the seat which is hidden except when reclined. In my seat I could easily slide three fingers into it and was perfect to insert the occupancy sensor.
CAREFULLY put an adhesive tape (Gorilla) on the sensor back and without bending or breaking gently slide it through the opening in the cushion using a couple of pieces of plastic or wood that will not puncture the upholstery to space up the upholstery about 1/2” from surface of the cushion to allow the insertion of the sensor so that it is about 3-4 inches toward the front from the back centered under the seat upholstery. Remove the spacers and gently press down the upholstery to bond to the tape on the bottom of the sensor.
Make sure the wiring on the sensor side threads from the seat into the hole in the swivel of the pedestal BEFORE YOU CONNECT the Yellow connectors. Zip tie any extra wire length sections to the frame of the seat so it is just not flopping around.
Air bag wiring: you will need to fold or coil the lengths of air bag wiring removed from the old seat and zip tie it in folds to the frame of the seat—below the swivel as it does not need to swivel with the seat. (Note: a good vehicle electrician could easily shorten this assembly up-but I am keeping it simple for purposes of this blog!)
Now connect the Orange connectors!
Now plug in the SRS/Airbag simulator(see pictures) into the orange tabbed squib receptor-it will fit perfectly, and push down the orange tab and it will clip down and hold the simulator in place. Now take electrical tape and wrap and secure the simulator in place-to the seat frame-a good electrician would solder the simulator to the wires-probably.
You must take the white ground wire from the AIRBAG wiring assembly and attach it to the ground screw you created for the seat motor and other mechanism in your seat. See picture in post #8
The AIRBAG simulator is available on Amazon-just search “airbag simulator” or “SRS simulator” and it will come up at a nominal price. Use the black cased one I used as I found others did NOT work!
